I was born and raised in Colorado. Saying good-bye to those beautiful Rocky Mountains and the rolling plains of South-Eastern Colorado was never something that crossed my mind.
But, last week, say good-bye to them is exactly what I did. After photographing my very last session on Sunday, Alan, Abel and I packed up a trailer with all of our worldly possessions and we made the 18-hour drive (more like 24-hour, with all of our stops for the human baby and the two furry babies in the car with us) to Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
What prompted this move? Why, the same thing that prompts any move, of course! The promise of a better life.
After having visited Oshkosh and the cities nestled in the Fox Valley along the Fox River (called the Fox Cities) in 2017, such as Neenah, Appleton, and Fond Du Lac, we fell in love with the area. The people, the communities, the landscapes….. it all called to us. For two years, we contemplated moving. We kept pushing it off, it just wasn’t the right time. (Check out this shot of one of the draw bridges over the Fox River in Oshkosh that Alan took!)
And then in September, we visited again. When we returned to Colorado, we started getting our ducks in a row. We talked about pushing off the move a little longer – March, or April. But something was set afire in us. We couldn’t wait.
So, with less than 2 weeks to prepare, we set a date to move. November 5th, 2019. And move we did!
We have been in Oshkosh for a week, and we couldn’t be more excited to be here. We’ve been exploring the communities (like the Timshel Cafe in Neenah, Wisconsin, where I took this photo of a beautiful cup of coffee that was equally delicious!) and meeting new people and falling even more deeply in love with this area.
Colorado and the Rocky Mountains will always have a place in my heart. Their beauty is unmatched in many places and way.
But Wisconsin is where we will be building our lives, and where my business will hopefully grow and find a home <3
