Union Depot, Pueblo, Colorado
Every love story is beautiful. 2017 was a year of favorites for me as I photographed my way through over 20 weddings from March until December. It was my busiest year, which doesn’t say much, given I’ve only photographed weddings for about two years.
While all of my wedding couples hold very special places in my heart, few of them are quite as dear to me as Denver and Troy. I have known Denver for several years through mutual family, and I was absolutely ecstatic for him when he married Troy in 2016.
I was even more ecstatic when they accepted my offer to be their wedding photographer.
I spoke with Denver a number of times over the months following their marriage leading up to their wedding. I photographed their “engagement” session in Pueblo Mountain Park in Beulah, and their love was so visible in each of the photos that I was melting through the whole session. I photographed them until we ran out of light, and their engagement session yielded several gorgeous images that are some of my favorites I’ve ever taken.
Fast-forward a couple of months to their wedding date. I was nervous and excited. Not only was this the last wedding of a very busy year for me, it was also my first same-sex wedding.
Photographing Denver and his wedding party get ready was a blast. I had the pleasure of meeting my first drag queen, who was part of the wedding party. She was beautiful and had an amazing sense of humor. I can now say from experience that a wedding that includes a drag queen will be an incredibly fun affair.
The ceremony itself took place in the loft of the Union Depot in Pueblo, Colorado. The Depot was a perfect choice – the places were set beautifully and complete with a Christmas card for each person. The magic set by the decorations was palpable. What a beautiful day for a wedding!
And beautiful it was. The love on Troy’s face when he got his first look at Denver walking down the aisle was so unmistakable. The pair looked classy and sophisticated facing each other. There was no mistaking it – these two are so deeply in love, it could be felt.
Their first dance was intimate, to say the least. Behind the camera, I teared up with each step. Their eyes locked, it was apparent that no one else existed in that moment for them.
I was lucky enough to get to steal Denver and Troy away for a few minutes and photograph them on Union and B Street. With Christmas light creating beautiful bokeh behind them, they naturally posed into some of the most beautiful portraits I have been lucky enough to take. Their expressions were priceless. Their interactions were nothing short of magical.
Denver and Troy are very much so a couple I adore and admire. Their love is beautiful, natural, real, and they are both such kind and enthusiastic people that their wedding experience is one that I won’t ever forget.
Thank you both for allowing me to capture this incredibly special day for you. I wish you many, many years of love and happiness and all the magic the world has to offer. <3
Here are some of my favorite shots from Denver and Troy’s big day!
